While the nationwide lockdown helped channel our inner ‘masterchef’, it hasn’t been particularly a very good news for our skin. Cheesy, fried, processed, we have been eating everything at home and the results are also evident on our skin. And now that we have cribbed enough about it, it is finally time to do something to fix the problem.
Just like the rest of our body parts, the skin also requires certain essential nutrients to maintain it in good health.
Some nutrients that have been known to promote skin health include antioxidants, omega-3 and -6 fatty acids and, vitamins E and C. Antioxidants are found in a number of plant-based foods like fruits and vegetables, as well as spices and herbs.
I’m not here to give you the same old tips and tricks.
So here are 7 ‘not so talked about but effective’ beauty tips for healthy and glowing skin.

1- Include Drumstick Or Moringa in your diet

It’s a very well-known fact that almost every part of the drumstick tree is great for consumption as its leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds are all full of nutrients and minerals with amazing health benefits. It is a treasure trove of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that could do wonders for your overall health. But, did you know that moringa is a powerful beauty ingredient as well? Moringa face masks are becoming extremely popular, as more and more people around the globe are realising the importance of this wonder ingredient, for enhancing beauty.
It slows down ageing, reduces wrinkles, fights acne, reduces larger pores and helps in removing toxins from the body.

2- Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an ingredient, which has many health as well as skin benefits. It is rich in acetic, citric, malic and amino acid and also contains vitamins, enzymes and mineral salts, which is beneficial for your skin.
If you are struggling from stubborn acnes and pimples, then keep an apple cider vinegar bottle handy. Due to its antibacterial and antifungal substance, apple cider vinegar helps in keeping your skin pores bacteria, oil and dust free.
It soothes and exfoliates your skin, helps remove age spots and wrinkles. It acts as an excellent toner too.

3- Wear SPF even during winters

I often hear this myth about Sunscreens- they aren’t mandatory in winters!
Winter sun is just as damaging as summer sun so ensuring that you are constantly protecting your skin from the rays is a sure way to help you have more glowing, clear skin. Sun damage is very difficult to reverse and the cold weather should not deter you from applying sunscreen before or after your moisturizer. I usually prefer applying the SPF after applying my moisturiser.
Wear it even when you are travelling by a car because UV-A and UV-B rays can penetrate glass surfaces.

4- Go back to your Roots

Use Ayurvedic scrubs to nourish the skin, and help it breathe better. Luckily for you, everything you need is already in your kitchen.
I generally use 2 tbsp chickpea flour, ½ tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of lemon juice squeezed in with some rose water.
Depending on your skin type, choose oils from mustard, coconut almond or Kumkumadi as they are excellent nourishing agents which help to get glowing skin.
Yes, the secret of beauty lies in ancient Ayurveda.

5- Switch up your shower routine

Piping hot water may feel good, but that’s a sure way to strip away your skin’s natural oils. Use warm water instead, keep your baths or showers short, and apply a generous amount of moisturizer after you dry off.
Don’t take too long showers!

6- Use Silk Pillowcases

The slick texture of silk may be better for your skin, especially if you battle acne. Make sure you wash the case every week and flip it to use the other side in 2–3 days.
Silk is hypoallergenic and is removed from all chemicals. Its relatively less friction on skin or hair prevents irritation or damage.
So it seems a safer and better choice.

7- Don’t use too many products

Layering on multiple skincare products all at once is a big no-no.
It can be harsh on the skin, it may lead to breakouts and clogged pores.
Honestly, it makes your skin look dull and lifeless.

Keep your skincare regime simple and feasible.
Most importantly stay hydrated and have adequate sleep. Nothing works better than that.
